I know for most people commitment can be a scary word. For guys, it’s the “forever” thing. For girls, it’s the “fear of failing” thing. Or, for guys and girls it’s both (trying not to stereotype here). It can also be an “I don’t care” thing.

What if he or she isn’t really the one, or I meet someone I like more, or he/she’s just faking how awesome he/she really is? (*Note: I have no clue what a guy thinks when it comes to commitment. Just a guess.)

What if I waste all this money on a monthly membership to a gym where I am completely intimidated, and I know everyone is looking at me saying, “This is never going to last, just another new year’s commitment fail.”

Do I really want to give up cheese burgers forever? No. I quit!

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

Another Bible version of this verse says be steadfast.

Being steadfast means to be firm and unwavering. These past 21 days, you have made a commitment to God that you are stopping bad habits and starting better ones. You CAN be steadfast and committed to this new lifestyle because God says that YOU CAN.

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

The best way you can stay committed is by doing these things:

  • Keep praying every day!

  • Keep reading your Bible every day. *Go to the bookstore and get a good devotional that you can read.

  • Stay consistent with being involved in your church community. You have no excuse! There are several Life Groups that you can go to. You can drop everything and do whatever it takes to be at a football game… Would you make arrangements for a babysitter to watch your kids in order for your life to be enriched with encouragement and truth? Would you be willing to make arrangements with your boss to get out of work 10 or 15 minutes earlier to set yourself up in an environment where God can speak purpose and clarity into your life? IT’S SO WORTH IT!!!

End your fast with a steadfast resolution to make 2016 the BEST YEAR of your life because it’s the closest you’ve ever been to God. STICK TO IT!

Let’s Pray:

God, I commit my 2016 to you. Help me to be consistent with the new, good habits in my life. I make a commitment to you that I will rely on your strength and stay connected to the community you have given to me. Help me to be someone who is set apart from the world and that starts new trends of faithfulness, loyalty, and love towards others. Thank you for this fast! AND bless the burger I’m about to eat in 24 hours. In Jesus name, AMEN!
