I was always scared of The Wizard of Oz. I didn’t understand how Dorothy could get so far from home. The witch was so scary, and the monkeys… I mean, come on. The one character that I loved was the Lion. He was so cute “trying” to be brave.
You are about to end this fast, and the attacks from the enemy are going to get stronger and harder. The devil is so mad at how this fast has given you a new perspective on life. It’s given you strength, revelation, and direction. You haven’t seen things as clear as you do now. That means YOU are a threat to the devil. You’re not just a Christian that doesn’t do anything for God. Satan doesn’t care about those Christians. YOU are now a Christian that is making a difference in your family, your friends, and in your work place. Your attitude is different and your love for God has grown. NOW, you better “Put ‘em up!” Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is the will to move forward in the face of fear.
Let’s clarify “Put ‘em up”. I’m not saying that you need to fight the people that are mean to you or that mock you for your faith. Or even the ones that deserve “a punch to the face, a slap to the face (a quote from the movie Nacho Libre)”. No. What I’m saying is to put on the armor of God and fight the spiritual battle that is in front of you and all around you.
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)
Okay, for my sci-fi fans- this is for real. I know, you’re pumped! For my non-sci-fi fans, this can sound scary. Don’t be scared! God has given us tools to fight the enemy and win EVERY TIME!
“Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” Matthew 26:41 (NLT)
Use the Name of Jesus:
When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!” Luke 10:17 (NLT)
Resist your temptations (don’t indulge in even a thought):
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (NLT)
Take the WAY OUT!
“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)
PUT ON YOUR ARMOR!
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” Ephesians 6:10-18 (NLT)
You’re going to another level with God. A whole ‘notha level will bring a whole ‘notha devil. Take what you have learned and apply it every day. Let the Lord be your strength. Bad things can and will happen. The enemy is strong. BUT YOUR GOD IS STRONGER!!! Put ‘em up!
Write down what you’ve learned so far in your fast. How can you overcome discouragement? How can you overcome sickness? How do you have victory over temptation? Start putting your favorite scriptures around your house, in your car, or in your work office or cubicle.
Dear Jesus, Although the fight is raging, I will not give up! I thank you for courage! I thank you for giving me all that I need to overcome and win the battle around me every time. I pray that you would bring Bible verses to my mind when I need them. Help me to remember your words and your promises every day. Give me clarity and wisdom to keep battling with you as my Commander and Chief. Let this year be the best one of my life because it’s the closest I’ll ever be to you. Strengthen my prayer life and give me clear understanding of your Bible. Let the desire for you grow with each day. Thank you for this fast! All glory to you, God, for your everlasting love. I pray all these things in your name, amen.
