If you haven’t seen The Sandlot, I’m sorry. It’s a classic tale of a young boy who moves to a new town and makes some friends with an aspiring neighborhood baseball team. There is more to it than just that, so you’ll have to watch it.
Forever is a word our minds can’t really understand. Have you ever stopped and tried to think about eternity? I have, and it’s pretty funny. I try to take my brain to a place that it’s not able to comprehend. Why? Because we live in a temporary place. That’s all we know. We all know that death is inevitable and that eternity is ahead, but it’s too hard to grasp. Is that why it’s so hard to understand God’s unfailing love?
Let’s look at grace. You get what you don’t deserve. You don’t get a ticket even though you were speeding. You made a mistake and forgiveness is right at your doorstep. What about forgiveness? That’s one I still can’t even fathom. We’ve made so many mistakes, and God still forgives us over and over again. It’s a limitless love. A love that is unfailing. If we get it so freely, then why is it so hard to extend to others so freely?
Here is a great question that we’ve all had. If God’s love is unfailing, then why do bad things happen? Great question! What’s great about God’s love is that He allows us free will. He gives us the freedom to choose Him and His purposes or we can decide not to choose Him. Unfortunately for us, Adam and Eve made a bad choice. Fortunately, God didn’t leave us. He could have, but His love is a forever love. Although He may have been disappointed and saddened by the choice, He still stayed. THEN, He decided to help us out while we live in this fallen world. He chose to send His son to die for us so that we could live a better life. So instead of asking why do bad things happen, rather, ask why is there any good in this world? Anything that is good comes from God. Let’s change our focus and look at the true blessing of God’s love.
Here are some great scriptures that we can look at to help us focus on the truth. They can also help us in our prayers and focus on the love of God instead of the lies of the enemy.
GOD’S LOVE IS ETERNAL: “But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.” Psalm 52:8 NIV
ASK FOR HIM TO REVEAL HIS LOVE: “Show us your unfailing love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.” Psalm 85:7 NIV
“May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise.” Psalm 119:41 NIV
HIS LOVE WILL BRING YOU JOY: “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” Psalm 90:14 NIV
BE COMFORTED BY HIS LOVE: “May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.” Psalm 119:76 NIV
HE WILL DIRECT YOU: “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8 NIV
HE WILL PROTECT YOU: “In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.” Psalm 143:12 NIV
HE DELIGHTS IN YOU: “The LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Psalm 147:11 NIV
I LOVE God’s word! Be encouraged today that no matter what bad decisions you’ve made, God loves you and cares about you.
In what ways do you think God wants to change your focus? How does He want you to extend His love through grace and forgiveness to others?
Lord, I’m so blessed by your unfailing love; your love that lasts forever. Help me to love others the way that you love me. I pray that you would help me extend grace and forgiveness to others like you’ve extended to me. If there is anything that I am holding on to, reveal it to me. Help me to focus more on your will and purpose for my life. Open my eyes to the lies of the enemy. Give me wisdom to make better decisions for you. Thank you, Jesus, for loving me the way you do. In your name I pray, amen.
